About

Hey, my name is Katie and I’m a fourth year Lit student at the University of Edinburgh.

If you haven’t guessed by now I’m kinda obsessed with books but I was always overwhelmed with the selection available. I had so many things I wanted to read next that often I ended up not reading any of them or starting three at once but not finishing them. This blog was a way for me to slow down and properly digest my own reading, and hopefully gives a bit of help to other lit buffs out there in narrowing down what to read next. I try to tackle a range of different authors, eras and genres, without completely ignoring non-fiction.

The blog’s name is an allusion to one of my favourite books ‘The Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstern. Herr Thiessen is one of the Circus’ voyeurs, a man whose love of the circus leads him to research and write about the experience of a night at the magical circus. I’m always up for recommendations so please let me know if you have a suggestion!

Other things I love include jasmine tea, superhero films and the cold side of the pillow.

  1. Thanks for liking my blog. I’ve just re-read His Dark Materials, a trilogy by Philip Pullman for the third time. It’s a YA book but for adults too, like Gullivers Travels. He’s won top awards with these books and this time round I was stealing words and ideas for my own writing. Another blog you may be interested in is Cristian Mihai.

    • I really enjoyed your blog and if you’re using Philip Pullman for inspiration then I can’t wait to read more. I loved his trilogy when I was younger – still do really lol. I’ll definitely have a look at Cristian Mihai. Thanks for the tip! 🙂

  2. Now that I’ve found your blog I’ve come across so many interesting sounding books that I’d like to add to my reading list but don’t really have the time to read right now. 😀 I’ve usually got 2-3 books in progress at any one time (trying to cut down to 1 at a time).

Have you read anything by Debbie Duncan? http://www.debbieduncan.com/

  3. Hi Katie! It’s wonderful to meet you — and I love your blog. 🙂 I just wanted to give you a heads-up that the “Brilliant Book Blogs” list in your sidebar doesn’t woirk. It looks like all the links have double “http” links, so the links don’t work. Cheers! 🙂 – m
